Menzaghi Motors, which had owned the rights to the Aspes brand since 2008, is being liquidated.

2008

The Aspes trademark rights are acquired by Menzaghi Motors of Varese with the aim of reviving the brand with modern scooters and enduro bikes (some based on Asian models).

1982

Economic difficulties led to the end of Aspes in Gallarate in 1982. The remains of the company were taken over by Unimoto (which emerged from the Milani brand). Models continued to be produced under this umbrella for a short time before the Aspes name disappeared from the market in the mid-1980s.

1980

Aspes is one of the few Italian manufacturers that can offer an 80cc enduro for the German and French markets in the form of the Navaho 80 RCL. However, compared to its Japanese competitors, this model is far too well equipped and therefore unaffordable for most people.

1976

Corrado Maddi wins the 125 Junior Championnat Italie on Aspes.

1970

Aspes names its models after legendary "Indian names" that have become part of the brand's identity:

  • Navaho (50 cm³): The iconic moped, which in various versions (e.g., RCR) with Minarelli P6 engines became the dream of many young people.
  • Apache (125 cm³): The first large cross model (1970). The prototype (Sachs): At the 1971 Milan Motor Show, Aspes actually presented a 125cc cross bike with a Sachs engine (the then brand-new 1251/6B). This was an attempt to rely on the proven German engine in order to be internationally competitive. To the surprise of experts, the Apache 125 went into production in 1972 not with the Sachs engine, but with the Maico engine. Maico was chosen because this engine was considered the most powerful and "high-revving" 125cc engine at the time.
  • Hopi (125 cm³): The successor to the Apache and the flagship for off-road racing (Regolarità) was then built with the Asco engine from 1973 onwards.
1961

Aspes begins manufacturing its own mopeds, with the company's operations largely built up by the Sorrentino brothers (Teodosio and Franco).

1955

Maria Aspesi founds the Aspes brand in Gallarate (province of Varese). The roots of the brand lie in her father's bicycle business, who was a well-known Viberti dealer. The brand name Aspes is derived from the family name Aspesi.
